Whether you're planning to dive in the Red Sea or somewhere else, Scuba diving or snorkelling and underwater photography are a pretty irresistable combination, so we've included a scuba link here too.
Underwater photography can be very cheap, perhaps just snorkelling with a disposable underwater camera. It can also be rather expensive, involving scuba diving and all sorts of training courses and fancy equipment! We look at both options.
Hands free photos and video underwater - and also useful for cycling, other land-based sports - or even for taking a video whilst playing with your children.
Waterproof: Canon Powershot D10 Digital Camera (12.1 MP, 3.0x Optical Zoom) 2.5" LCD
Waterproof down to 33 feet/10 metres for scuba diving, snorkeling or surfing - and dustproof, for peace of mind on an Egyptian desert or sandy beach beside the Red Sea. Even in the brilliant sunshine of Egypt you should be able to view the 2.5" extra-bright LCD II screen quite easily (the 2mm thick protective window features 2x normal brightness). It's shockproof to 1.22 metres - so select a short camel for your camel ride! For the record, it's also freeze proof and withstands extremes of temperature 14-104 °F (that's down to -10°C) so it's also ideal for winter sports holidays. The Optical Image Stabiliser automatically detects and corrects camera shake - click the image to read about the camera's many features at Amazon.
One of the reviewers at Amazon used his Canon Powershot D10 when working as a volunteer in a turtle conservation project. He reported that the camera was superb - robust and easy to use,ook clear stills and videos, survived sea and sand and still looked great. Another used it in Iceland in the 40°C water of the Blue Lagoon with good results, and also to photograph geysers, in the cold - but recommends carrying a spare battery when working at very low temperature. Not likely to be a problem in Egypt!
