Should you skimp on photography accessories if you're trying to travelling light? Probably! But there are some accessories that you really need to fully enjoy your trip . . . my top two are a good camera bag and a good rechargable battery system.
What do you look for in a 'good' camera bag for travel? How about:
Rugged design - tough, shock absorbing, dust resistant and water proof would be great.
Easy to carry - which, to me, means a lightweight, backpack style. It has to be comfortable (subjective, I know), something the Lowepro Backpack Harness Lowepro Backpack Harness can help with this - the straps are ergonomically designed to distribute weight for greater comfort.
Easy to unpack and repack at an airport check-in desk
Easy to use - designed for easy use in the field - I want to be able to grab a specific bit of kit fast and without fuss so?I don't miss or mess-up any photo opportunities. That means it has to be well organised and easy to undo so that I can find things - and get them out - quickly. Oh, it also has to be big enough to protect ALL my kit. Travelling can be very hard on camera kit.
Jackets with lots of pockets - like Domke Photogs - are generally great for any kind of photography, but they can get pretty uncomfortable in a hot place like Egypt!
