I was chuffed to discover that Orchard Toys have come up with a really good Egypt-based game - the "Tutan Loot 'Em" Game - plenty of food for thought as well as the fun value. (I love Orchard games in case you didn't know.) We've also rounded up some good board games, games books and toys (all about Egypt) on this page.
Not only that, we've made a couple of extra 'play' pages. Don't miss our special features - one, "Egypt: Crafts / Activities", which includes reviews of craft kits, jigsaws, activity kits etc., and another specifically for Puzzle Games, "Egypt: Puzzles". The puzzles include jigsaws, mazes, puzzle books, puzzle adventure books, ancient folk puzzle games and toys and other puzzle activities about Egypt.
A deluxe excavation set, with an ATV (ready assembled) with working front and rear spring loaded suspension and all the tyre-changing tools, and model pieces - including 3 figures (approx. 7.5 cm tall), mummy, golden sarcophagus, excavation tools and walkie talkies
The manufacturer states: "Mighty World sets are mainly made of plastic and hand finished, in order to create the great amount of detail for imaginative play."
No batteries required
Collect Egyptian artefacts like mummies and carvings (beautifully illustrated cards). But beware — this is more than a matching game!
It's a friendly game - until the twist in the tail, right the end - when someone turns robber, looting artefacts from the other players . . . to win! As with so many of the Orchard Toys games, the whole family will have fun playing - and won't have lost it's appeal by the time your children are studying the Ancient Egyptians at Key Stage 2
Ages: 5 years up. 2 to 4 players
Prepare to be amazed as the nasty bits are revealed in the 'pops' and 'pull-outs' as you track master-thief Antef and his crew of criminals through three action-packed rooms. Your mission: to foil them as they attempt to pull off the biggest tomb-robbery of all time - to empty Tut's tomb of its finest treasures!
Complete with a host of 'press out and play' characters.
3-6 players, Ages 8 - adult
Valley of the Pharaohs is played on a beautifully illustrated cloth map of Egypt packaged in a wooden book-box with cast metal playing pieces, metal coins and individual character cards - perhaps it shouldn't really be in the 'board-games' section!
Valley of the Pharaohs is set in Egypt, 1926. The Valley holds many secrets, but none so great as the Scepter of Amun-Ra. Players choose a character head for the Valley of the Pharaohs to collect legendary Scepter. Desert bandits, blinding sandstorms and interference from your fellow players may hold you up - but the oasis of the friendly Bedouin provides a safe haven. Spin the Wheel of Fate and collect resources to overcome obstacles (or to hinder your opponents). When you roll doubles you control the mummy - but never for long!
" . . . easy enough for kids to learn, yet engaging enough for adults too. It's the ultimate family adventure!" - Steve Hart
"Valley of the Pharaohs" received a 'Creative Child Magazine Preferred Choice Award' 2007 and was named one of the 'KidzWorld Media Top 25 Toys of 2006'
